| the happiest moment of the day so far was when my square, stodgy grammar teacher with her gruff, intimidating voice cheerfully started singing the uyghur alphabet song to me. i couldn't find a word in my uyghur dictionary, and It Was Discovered that after one year of study, i *still* don't know the order of the 32 alphabet letters. without any warning, my almost-tone deaf mentor burst suddenly and gloriously into song with her tenor voice. when i eventually sang along with her, i had to sing a whole octave higher. we laughed for an hour. | | |
